With the music history exam just a day away, I find myself studying more about the composer’s background. For this particular exam the focus is on music from the baroque era to the present day (1600-present). The following is a list of the composers that I will be expected to know (mainly about their personal upbringing, musical style and genres they composed in): Bach, Handel, Haydn, Mozart, Beethoven, Schubert, Chopin, Berlioz, Debussy, Stravinsky, and Louie.
FUN FACT: To this date, only Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Franz Joseph Haydn, and Alexina Louie have had ONE spouse for their entire lives.
Here is an overview of all the composers and the history of their love lives:
J.S. Bach = Married Maria Barbara Bach (dies); Married Anna Magdalena Wilcke
George Frideric Handel = Remained single
Franz Joseph Haydn = Married Maria Anna Keller (unhappy marriage)
Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart = Married Constanze Weber (against father’s wishes)
Ludwig van Beethoven = Remained single
Franz Schubert = Remained single
Frederic Chopin = Love affair with Aurore Dudevant but never married
Hector Berlioz = Married Harriet Smithson (Separated); Married Marie Recio after Harriet’s death
